The things that go down best are shopping trips together, that way I can give his advice and also buy him something he loves (you may remember I did a blog about our shopping trip for his last birthday), or a trip somewhere, usually to get something nice to eat. Normally, to make it special this would cost quite a lot of money, however, there are so many hidden gems out there and I have become addicted to Amazon Local to find them at a good price.
I blogged a little while ago about a Father's Day treat and we went out for dinner in London, he loved this so much that I thought I would do it again, once again using Amazon Local, to try new places at a bargain price!
The restaurant is called Smollensky's, and it was a cool little hidden door which lead us into a hallway that was practically the same width as the single door. It was somewhere that I had walked passed a number of times but never noticed because it was so little in comparison to the big places around it, like The Savoy!
It lead you down some stairs and then opened up to a fairly large sized restaurant.
The deal I had got on Amazon Local was £12 for any burger and a Mojito cocktail of your choice. My partner wanted in on this idea and so the deal was that I paid for dad's dinner and then Ed paid for any additional drinks, puddings and service charge. This worked out so well as it was such an inexpensive gift but went down so well and meant we all had such a good night (apart from me feeling sick in the cocktail bar because I am such a massive lightweight).
We headed to our table, where we could pick from different burgers, the boys went for a classic and I went for a chicken burger. Then you could select what type of Mojito you wanted, I am not a fan of mojito's, so I decided to go for a strawberry one... I can still say I am not a fan on Mojito's after this, however the men were very satisfied with theirs.
The meal was lovely and the service was very good and fast, it had quite a young atmosphere in there with lots of music pumping in the bar area but the tables were far enough away for the music to just be nice in the background, we didn't have to shout at each other.
After dinner we headed to Covent Garden and went to bar 21. I was already feeling fairly merry after my glass of wine and half a mojito, I didn't want to be a kill-joy though so I thought I would have one more cocktail, but just not very alcoholic. We were on a beautiful balcony, overlooking CG but it was so busy and we couldn't get a seat. The men didn't mind this, I did however!
The very nice man behind the bar took about 15minutes to make my cocktail and it was the best cocktail I have ever had, I don't know what it was called or what was in it... but it was yellow with a sliced passion fruit on top, it also came with a shot of champagne, which you add to it once you've drunk some. It was so delicious, but this was the point I suddenly felt unwell, I should have just been a kill-joy and not have wasted a £10 cocktail... well at least Ed got to enjoy it!
