Eyeliner. There are so many different types and I have tried a lot! This make-up blog that I have been doing for the last couple of weeks, is a look into my day-day, so as a daily product I always turn to:
Barry M Black Kohl Eye Pencil: £3.00
This is great for precision and is great for a natural day look! If I'm at work I tend to just draw some on the inside of my eye along the bottom lashes. I always start from the outside of my eye and draw it the whole way along until I reach the inside corner. If I'm doing something else in the day that is is bit more special, like shopping or lunch, then I will also use my pencil to draw a line and a flick on the top of my eyelid. My two top tips for using this on top of the eyes, are to keep as close to the lashes as possible (to avoid the white gap) and keep your pencil sharpened- there is nothing worse than I thick, messy liner (it also makes flicks much easier). Unfortunately I haven't learnt any master tricks, which can eliminate the wonky 'one flick is much better than the other', it happens to the best of us and I think even the top make-up artists can struggle, it's just perseverance and it helps if you start with your eye make up first so that you can take it off and re-do without spoiling the rest of your face.
This product is generally the only thing I wear on my eyelids in the daytime. I mentioned my Bobbi Brown shimmer brick, which will be the only colour I use on my eyes in the day. I'm not very daring in that retrospect I'm afraid.
I have used all kinds of eyeliners and Barry M seems to be the longest lasting, easiest and the darkest. I tried Dior, Estée Lauder and Maybelline pencils and this was definitely my favourite AND cheapest (although you get a nice blender with Dior!)
Liquid eyeliner I only wear when I'm going out, it gives a much harsher effect I find, that looks much better for partying or making an impact!
Gel Liner seems to be the new best thing, unfortunately I have only tried the Avon one, which was crap, but I hear Bobbi Brown has a fantastic one- just make sure you buy a good application brush, as a cheap one will make it much harder (I've tried!) My make-up artist always uses gel liner on me and uses a MAC black one, which gives a lovely dramatic effect- it helps that she is also much better at applying it than me!
For me, the key with eyeliner, is to see what works best for you. Everyone's eyes are different and some people suit black much more than others. I have quite big, blue eyes, so for me, this pencil along the top of my eyes works perfectly (on some people it can make them look like they've been punched in the face). Browns and blues are lovely too.
So try a few
and see what works best for you!
See that poetry!! 😉
Watch out for my next beauty blog on Mascara!
