Happy Sunday everyone! I hope you have all had a lovely weekend, and are all feeling well rested, ready for Monday. Lucky for me, I am now on half term (one of the perks of working at a college) So I am looking forward to wearing lots of lovely outfits, as oppose to wearing uniform all the time! This Valentine's Day, I went to Ascot races with my family for the first time! Now, I'm not a huge fan of horse racing as some of you may know, but it turned out to be a fabulous day (and no animals were harmed in the making). |
We were very lucky to get a box, as dad was there on business, but the business soon turned to pleasure as everyone got along so well and had a really good time! The box was lovely and a real treat for me, especially as it was a fairly nippy day and was on/off raining for most of the afternoon. On arrival, we were greeted by lovely Maureen, who looked after us extremely well all day. Once everyone had arrived and greeted one another we started the three course meal. Bubble and squeak soup, followed by duck, served with mash and vegetables, finished with apple crumble and custard. It was delicious, but very filling! After lunch was time for the betting, daddy very kindly paid my bets, unlucky for him.. I turned out to be rather useless! But lucky for me.. I lost no money! |
Another brilliant thing about the box, was that you could still be 'in with it' When the races were on, we all went on to the balcony and met with our 'box neighbours' who were all cheering and jumping around, and then while we waited for the next race, we went back inside to the warm and carried on chatting and drinking/eating. There was also a TV in the box, which meant that if we couldn't see who was coming first, we could check on the screen for a much closer view. You also had the option to go downstairs if you wanted to get better odds, but obviously, I chose to stay inside the comfort of our little box. The lady even came round the the boxes between every race, so that you could put your bets on or collect your winnings without moving (I'm sounding lazy I know!)
After some more food (cheese and crackers), it was time for the final race.. the big one.. there were 10 horses in this one, and I was a little nervous for the horses as I knew this race probably had the highest chance of something going wrong for them (thankfully, I had nothing to worry about). The adrenaline was pumping, everyone was out on their balconies, the noise was phenomenal and at the last minute I changed my mind on the winner because I found out that it was the horses first time.. His name was 'wait for me' so I thought this was probably not the best idea. I WAS WRONG! I should not have changed my mind.. I should have stuck with my gut.. The little beauty went to win it.. by a long shot! Silly Em!!
All in all, we all had such a wonderful day and I can't wait to do it again.. Now onto the outfit details:
